first-lady-popeFirst Lady Linda M. Pope was born in Aiken County, South Carolina, to Deacon Thomas Mackie, Sr. and Sister Lula Mae Mundy Mackie.  She is the oldest of four children.  She is married to Reverend Dr. Alexander Pope, Jr., the pastor of First Providence Baptist Church.  They have one daughter, Mrs. Pamela Felice Crayon, one granddaughter, Layla Felice Crayon, and one grandson, Shelley Crayon.

She was baptized at 8 years old at the Second Baptist Church in Aiken, SC.  After marriage, she joined her husband’s church, Springfield Baptist Church in Eureka, South Carolina where she served as a Sunday School teacher, corresponding secretary, member of the choir, and a deaconess.  Now as a member of the First Providence Baptist Church, she has served as a member of the choir, a deaconess, and a Sunday School teacher.

She attended the Aiken Public Schools.  She is a 1968 graduate of the Martha Schofield High School, Aiken, South Carolina and was third in her class.  She graduated in 1972 with Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  She was a summa cum laude graduate and held the second highest honor in the Class of 1972.

She has received several certificates and awards for her services to the community.  She has served on the Aiken County School Advisory Board and is the President of the Aiken Minister’s Wives Alliance.

Prior to retirement in March 2005, she was gainfully employed with the Westinghouse Savannah River Company at the Savannah River Site as a Senior Technical Advisor in the Information Technology Department where her area of expertise is in Computer Science, specifically Systems Re-Engineering and Computer Security.

First Lady Linda Pope has written a new computer software financial program for First Providence Baptist Church.  On July 10, 2007 the Trustee Ministry began training on the new software.  Every trustee will be trained to enter financial data into the new software package.

First Lady Pope also created a membership database within this program.  The Deacon’s are also trained on this program.  It is used to track members that are assigned to their team.  Eventually, every member will have access to this system to track their tithes and offerings.
